Week 7: Haircut & A Cappella

Image
Hey, So I got my hair cut yesterday, and let me just say, it wasn't that bad. Actually my hair looks nice. My roommates are trying to have me cut my hair since, apparently, I look much skinnier with my hair cut. The Japanese (3-week training) district left on Monday morning at 3:30AM (I'll have to do that too), and so the Japanese sisters wrote each of us notes.  One of the sisters thought that I looked like a prince...HAHAHA, yeah right (probably just the hair).  The other 3 commented on a weird dance I did in the gym for them last week and how funny it was (I forgot what the dance move it was--I think it was the shopping cart, or something of that sort). They're really nice people though. BTW, I can't wait to go to Japan. I leave in 3 weeks...OOH, I'M SO EXCITED!!!!! I just can't hide it! So, we didn't do the musical number on Sunday... We were practicing on Friday and I thought it would be a good Idea to record us and see how we sounded--OOF!  It so...

Week 6: The Hectic Week

Image
Hey!   So this week has been pretty hectic, but I've gotten through it. I had my first cup noodle yesterday,   listened to Elder D. Todd Christofferson make an announcement, hosted senior companions, and I got to sing in a choir - we sang Joseph Smith's First Prayer, and it was broadcasted to MTC's worldwide.  I have signed up to be in the choir, so always sing in the choir. BTW, some missionaries here have some wild senses of humor and get entertained by the most bizarre things. Hahaha.  Yesterday, I didn't have dinner at the recommended hour since we went straight from service (setting up the gym for the devotional) to choir; so, when we got back to the residency at the end of the day, I was making cup noodles for everyone — I just wanted to do something nice for my roommates — and all the sudden someone brought a cat that roamed around the MTC into the residency building.  I was like, "Come on guys, don't bring the cat inside. Take it back out! We've ...

Week 5: New Curriculum

Image
Hey, So this past week, we've gotten a new curriculum and it is so hard to get used to. Now everything is mapped out in class.  For the new curriculum, there is less teaching fake investigators – BTW, they're now supposed to be called "New Friends,” but that just makes things confusing so my district is trying to come up with a better name for it instead of "investigator" or "New Friend.” Oh, and more memorizing (A lot like school). This past week's topic--I guess-- would be attitude. On Sunday, we watched Elder Holland’s talk "Missions are forever" and it struck my heart like lightning, and shook my earth like it was quaking!! This is the only time in my life where I can be apostolic; where I can focus on the Savior for 2 full years with no distractions!!  Elder Holland said that in Moses 1:39 when you read the word "my," to make it personal.  "This is MY work... to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"...

Week 4: Feel the Spirit & Open the Mouth

Hello, So, this week I was released from my calling as district leader. When I was released, the branch president told me how good of a job I did as district leader, and that this is just because every 3 weeks, they're supposed to switch things up. It was definitely fun while it lasted. After getting released, I didn't know what to do with myself.   To be honest, I was kind of sad that I wasn't a leader anymore, and I felt like I had no purpose.   The reason why, I think, I was called as a district leader first wasn't because I was the best qualified, rather it was because I needed it to have the leadership role to feel needed, or to help me calm down and keep my stress level down, and my mind off of the stuff that actually stressed me out.   Though I felt useless for a moment when I was released from the calling, but I knew that that was just the effect that Satan was trying to null me into and that that was perhaps   just my pride talking.   So...

Week 3: Week in Rerp

This week was great! It went much faster than the last 2 weeks. All of my district is thriving and by the end of these 9 weeks, we can all speak really good Japanese. The accents are terrible, but the use of the language isn't bad. They're all doing so well and working super hard. I gave my first blessing of comfort.  It felt awesome.  One of my district mates, Elder Dombrowski, was having so much stress putting together a lesson and a talk for Sunday's meetings —by the way, Elder Dombrowski is an awesome dude: He is so chill and laid back but super hardworking.  One day, he came in and told me how much he was stressing about this since he didn't know the language at all (He's one of missionaries in our district that doesn't have any background with Japanese knowledge).  Around 10:30 pm (we have a 10:30PM curfew), Elder Tani suggested we say a prayer with him--so we did.  The whole time during the prayer, all I could think of was "Give Elder Dombrowski a ...
