Week 32: Kylo ren? What do you say? (Week 23 on the field)

Image
Hey,     Yesterday, I was greeting people at the door of the church and there is this one 1/2 family and they're in in the other ward in our church building.  This boy, I forgot his name, came and said hi and went inside of the chapel.  Then I said hi to his sister and she said hi back and went into the chapel.  Then, about a minute later, the boy came back out and said "my sister says that you look like kylo ren!" then he walked back inside the chapel.  The funny thing is, people have said that I look like Kylo Ren, the son of Han Solo from Star War, multiple times since I've been in Japan.  What do you guys think?         I set up the entire day to Dendo in Yonabaru area, and this is a huge area... but the area had been closed because of a lack in missionaries as well as the toughness of the hills.  Well, I spent 2 weeks putting together this "project," and we accomplished our goal.  Esse...

Week 31: Skype is a thing now (Week 22nd in the field)

Hey,     So even with the new announcement going out that I can now call home every week, I'll still make sure that I'm sending a weekly email to y'all.   This week we got the announcement and we were all so stunned. I'm so excited to call home. Since I can only call my family, I unfortunately can't call all of you so this is my mode of communication.  I woke up on Thursday morning and I checked my LINE (It's like messenger or Whatsapp in Japan) and saw that the announcement was posted in my zone LINE group chat.  I was like "What?!? Wait, what?!? Yo, yo dude, Elder! Hear this..." and I told him about the announcement.  Among missionaries, some are hesitant to do so or feel like it's strange.  I see where they come from it's changed from skyping only 30 minutes for Christmas and Mother's day to every week.  Email's not gone but since the prophet is truly receiving revelations on how to strengthen the family, ...

Week 30: Base is regular occurrence now (week 21st in the field)

Hey,    Yep, base is a regular occurrence now.  This past week, we talked to one of the chaplains on base and are now allowed to set up activities.  Elder Larsen and I are now thinking of things we can do on base.  We've planned a lot this week.  The idea that we are most keen on doing on base is holding a 12 steps to addiction recovery group for marines.  The mission president, President Mack, thinks it's a good idea and is full for it.  We're also trying to get the youth in our ward to get more involved and gain a eternal and everlasting conversion by trying to run our own Family Home Evenings at the church on Monday nights.  For those of you who are unfamiliar of our church, we are very family-oriented.  Since the most basic unit in this church is the family, that should be where the majority of the teaching and learning should be.  Family Home Evening is a time given on Monday nights for families to gain a better ...
