Week 15: Ups and downs...but mostly Ups (Week 6 on the field)

Image
Hey,    So first of all, sorry for the people I sometimes have to skip out on.  When I email on my tablet, the copy and paste function for the email doesn't work.  So, I have to skip out in order to have enough time to write.  Also please forgive this being on a Tuesday instead of a Monday.  I just found out this week that it is a Transfer Week and I didn't know P-day was on Tuesday.  It's okay though. I'm not being transferred...yet.     Last week, I forgot to mention a miracle.  So I went to an orthodontist to get my bracket fixed 2 weeks ago (2 days before I left the MTC, I was eating some really hard toffee and it ripped off the bracket from one tooth so it just hung in my mouth and was bothering me for a month).  Elder Uhlig and I went to the orthodontist.  It's a Japanese clinic so I went up to the desk and explained my problem (all in Japanese BTW).  The lady tells me to sit down and wait while sh...

Week 14: My Broken Bike

Image
Hey,    So my bike is broken... I got it less than a month ago and the back wheel broke. Elder Uhlig and I were walking back from shuri (which is 5 km away from our appartment) since we were at volleyball with the Young Single Adults and had to get home by 9. It was 8:45 and we ran to our bikes. We hopped on and there is this super steep hill that we had to climb/descend from. So as we were biking down this hill, Elder Uhlig is already WAY far ahead and I didn't have a front light (Since I gave that in to sports depo last week. Earlier in the day, Sports Depo called and said to come pick up the light so we were planning to go to this sporting goods store anyway). I put on my brakes (Which were really bad anyway) and the back wheel skidded as I got to the bottom of the hill. I didn't think anything was wrong with it so I pedaled a bit and stopped since the back tire was hitting something. I checked it and thought it was the bike basket so I moved the seat up... th...

Week 13: My weirdest housing experience ever (Week 4 on the field)

Image
Hey,     So my weird experience... I was on splits with one of the zone leaders, Elder Boll.  We were housing and going door to door.  And it was the LAST door of the night.  Before we headed back to the apartment, we were like..."Okay, one more door."  So we rang a doorbell of this one apartment door.  We saw that the person looked through the peep-hole like 4 times, and then this lady, about in her 30s to 40s opened the door and said, "Bikkuri Shita!!" (Which means "you scared/suprised me").  She's then like "okay, come in, come in."  Brother Boll and I gave each other a look like "Whaatt?" and then we went in slowly.  When we asked if it would be okay to go in, she's like "yes, yes, come in."  When we went inside, there's a father cooking food and gave us a look like "sup".  The lady said, "I think you're looking for him".  She then pushed us (literally) into this 12 year...

Week 12: Typhoons, Zone Conference, and No General conference?!? (Week 3 on the field)

Image
Hey,   So, this week is the second straight week we've had a typhoon, and it was during our zone conference.  We went up to Okinawa city and met with our mission president.  There was this giant meeting and they're switching everything up.  It seems like I am always being a guinea pig but it's all good.  We get new flyers that we pass out and it's more oriented on helping other people and their personal affairs.  It's a tri-fold with a whole bunch of QR codes. They have sections on Family Affairs (That has things like "how to make a family stronger," "addiction recovery," "marriage help," and etc), Volunteering (a service site), Family History, Education help, Eikaiwa *(This changed a bunch also-this'll help people a lot more), and how to find a work-life balance.  It's an interesting thing, but I'm not sure how things are going to go.    My companion, Elder Uhlig is super nice.  H...
