Week 36: Planning and a heartbreak (Not a Dear John) - week 27th on the field

Howdy,    It's your favorite missionary man with your weekly report.  As for this week, Elder Larsen and I have been planning activities for our ward.  To strengthen the members, we've decided to start a weekly Family Home Evening and a weekly ping pong night for the ward.  For Family Home Evening, our set-up will be just like how it is at home.  We start out with a couple games that we like and then we do a spiritual message, then to finish, we have dessert.  I've planned out the next 3 weeks for the spiritual message.  I have this vision of how this could go.  If the members are into it, we'll try to hand them the leadership role so that they can take over the activities.  So Family Home Evening is going to be every Monday and Ping pong night will be every Tuesday.  楽しみ! (Tanoshimi / It will be fun!)        Today will go like this: We'll have 45 minutes of games and an example game for our spiritual m...

Week 35: Meetings and a week-long comp exchange... again (week 26th on the field)

Hey,         If y'all don't already know, this is my 6th-month mark out in Japan--That's right, today!  This week was full of conferences and meetings.  We had Zone conference over here in Naha so I got to see some old and new faces.  From Monday night to Friday afternoon, I was with Elder Bodily-- who became district leader by the way-- and we went around Urasoe and Dendoed.   We also Dendo slammed with the entire zone; a Dendo slam, by the way, is when all of the missionaries in a zone gather together and proselyte an area together.  This week was also White Day.  Now, White Day is a holiday made in Japan--I thought it was in America as well but it's not--and it's the opposite of Valentines Day.  Here in Japan, Valentines Day is a day that the GIRL gives a present --typically chocolate based candy or cake -- to GUY,  and White Day is when the GUY gives a present --  white chocolate based candy, ...

Week 34: The Last Survivor ( week 25th on the field)

Image
Hey,       So, why did I title my week, "The last survivor"?  Well, now, I'm the only one from my 1st transfer still here in my zone.  Sister Gallarde had been in my district SINCE THE MTC (missionary training center) all the way back in July of last year! BUT, she left on Thursday to Fukuoka where she will do marvellous things.  Since transfer 1, Elder Boll, Elder Barlow, Elder Wheeler,    Elder Nakata,  Sister Baquinquito, and  Sister Miyaki  returned home.  Elder Lim, Elder Howell and Elder Howells were transferred.  Sister Hippolite and Sister Spendlove were also transferred out, and the one and only Elder Uhlig was transferred out too!  I'm the Lone Survivor!!  That's crazy when you spend 5 transfers (each transfer being 6 weeks) in your bean (first) area.  I might be the only person in the mission that can say that they've been in their first area for 5 weeks.  I still have wo...

Week 33: I'll be stayin' (week 24 on the field)

Hey,     It's transfer week and I'll be stayin'.  This will be my 5th transfer so I guess you could say I'm a veteran here.  Or even say "I'm serving overseas in Okinawa".  February sure flew by fast!  It felt like this past transfer just started and It's already ended.     Yesterday, we, missionaries hosted a Family Home Evening with the Young Single Adults.  It was a Ping Pong and Pancake night, and the night went really well.  I sadly lost in the Elite 8 of the Tournament, but I tried to go easy on the other opponent (without throwing the match).  We had a service project on Saturday and where we cleaned a grave that was hidden in a forest. It's weird that we just chopped down trees and chucked them off to the side for about 2 hours and the grandma that asked us to come along, the entire time, was like "Hey, it's hot outside and you'll get tired so drink while you're working."  She was a super nice gr...
