Week 5: New Curriculum

Hey,

So this past week, we've gotten a new curriculum and it is so hard to get used to. Now everything is mapped out in class.  For the new curriculum, there is less teaching fake investigators – BTW, they're now supposed to be called "New Friends,” but that just makes things confusing so my district is trying to come up with a better name for it instead of "investigator" or "New Friend.” Oh, and more memorizing (A lot like school).
This past week's topic--I guess-- would be attitude. On Sunday, we watched Elder Holland’s talk "Missions are forever" and it struck my heart like lightning, and shook my earth like it was quaking!!
This is the only time in my life where I can be apostolic; where I can focus on the Savior for 2 full years with no distractions!!  Elder Holland said that in Moses 1:39 when you read the word "my," to make it personal.  "This is MY work... to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"— this is what I need to do —to be able to get people to this point- immortality and eternal life.  It was so powerful.

This week, past week, we've gotten to know our new こうはい /Kohhai (newbies), and they're really nice.  On Sunday, I gave a talk in Japanese.  I think it went well.  The topic was the apostasy and restoration. Well, I truly believe that it went really well.  I spoke how the Apostasy was a time of spiritual darkness, but we now live in a time when we can partake of the light of the glorious gospel of Christ.  I used the scripture Doctrine and Covenants 45:28 which talks about light breaking the darkness of those that sit in darkness and that light being the fullness of the gospel.  I read the scripture in Japanese and English (reading it in English was an option-- even though the whole talk and testimony had to be in Japanese).
As soon as the morning started, I felt that I would get called to speak….it was awesome!

Yesterday, my tie was coming apart, so even though it took me an hour —yep, one long hour, I sewed my tie back together.  I also sewed the tie flappy holder on the back of the tie too.  I was actually proud of myself. Hahaha.  It may look a but weird but I fixed it!  Yay!!
Many of the stuff we learn here are characteristics that we need for later in life.  One of the many lessons we need is to learn to gain Christ-like attributes: faith, hope, charity, love, virtue, knowledge, patience, humility, diligence and obedience.  A lot of things we are learning for this week have been about attitude and gratitude.
The devotional yesterday was about comparison and competition-- both are useful, and in real life, you experience and see them everywhere.  In fact some of us are so passionate about them.  It is all most like we are programmed to have comparison and competition in order to succeed.  Seriously everywhere we look; work place, school, entertainments, sports, and so on, these are all so filled with competition and comparison.  Here, at the MTC, we are taught that we shouldn't feel any of these when teaching others about the gospel of Jesus Christ.  I think this mission is the only time that we get to focus just on the Lord.  Competition often leads us to have pride, and can make the spirit go away. Comparison puts mindset of inferiority or superiority.  We just have to remember that God is our loving Heavenly Father, and for Him, we are all equally important.  He loves and cares about us so much.

BTW, the best way to teach is through the spirit. The gift of tongues is real!!  I know it is!!  My Japanese is getting so much better, and this new curriculum, even though it is weird, will help me to become the better Lord’s missionary.

Anyway, here is a scripture I would like to share with you: Moroni 7:47

47 But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.
48 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may
be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen.

Let’s have charity toward everyone!!  It is so important and everyone needs this.  Without charity, everything will fail.  Love those who hate you.  Be kind. Be like the savior in every kind of way.

This generation really needs to feel love.  I love you. あいしています。(AISHITEIMASU)
