Week 3: Week in Rerp

This week was great! It went much faster than the last 2 weeks. All of my district is thriving and by the end of these 9 weeks, we can all speak really good Japanese. The accents are terrible, but the use of the language isn't bad. They're all doing so well and working super hard.

I gave my first blessing of comfort.  It felt awesome.  One of my district mates, Elder Dombrowski, was having so much stress putting together a lesson and a talk for Sunday's meetings —by the way, Elder Dombrowski is an awesome dude: He is so chill and laid back but super hardworking.  One day, he came in and told me how much he was stressing about this since he didn't know the language at all (He's one of missionaries in our district that doesn't have any background with Japanese knowledge).  Around 10:30 pm (we have a 10:30PM curfew), Elder Tani suggested we say a prayer with him--so we did.  The whole time during the prayer, all I could think of was "Give Elder Dombrowski a blessing".  It was the spirit telling me to do so, so after the prayer I said "Even though we just said a prayer, would it be okay to give you a blessing?"  He said "yeah, that would be fine, .”  The spirit was so strong.  When I was giving him this blessing,  words of comfort and peace came to my mind.  I won't go into detail on what I said because it's really personal, but when the blessing was over, you could feel the power of the Holy Ghost in our room.
Our district has such a strong bond that nothing can break it. We invite everyone in our zone to come into our room and chill out (Elder Lee, Elder Critchfield, Elder Tani, and my room). So tons of times, people come to just hang out.  Anyway, after some of went to bed, there was quiet and peace in our room.  All the sudden, I saw Elder Tani sitting up and thinking like he's about to say something. I asked "something on your mind?" He says, "Usually the first time people give blessings, it's just a prayer but yours, it WAS a blessing!!  I'm telling you, Elder Dombrowski will remember that for a long time!!”  He then showed me a letter that he received and how that letter gives him the motivation to move forward, to be compassionate, to be humble, etc. He told me that ever since I've gotten here, he's seen me change a TON.  He said that I've become a greater and greater person each day since I've been here, and the patience that I show is remarkable.  I could only blush. 😊

(BTW, It's weird calling people Elder instead of 長老 (Chourou) and Sister instead of 姉妹 (Shimai), so I'll type like that now)

Our friend, (we aren't supposed to say “investigator” anymore because that creates a barrier) 渑辺さん(Ms. Watanabe), is actually our teacher.  Her actual name is Fernilius 姉妹.  We actually have a lot in common.  She's 1/2 as well, mom's Japanese, her relatives live in 羀馬県(Gunma ken) inζ‘η”Ÿ (Kiryu). I don't remember how to say this in English, but γŠγŠγ•γ‚γŽγ§γ—γŸ (we were so excited to learn that). BTW, Elder Lee and I were so surprised when she came around the corner to our classroom with her MTC teacher badge on because we thought that she was an actual investigator.

As a district, we've gotten closer and closer every day since we've been here.
I had cookies and cream milk and that's straight sugar, but it is yummy.  I eat healthy often and work out every day.  We all go to Tani 長老 almost every day (We don't include the Preperation day or the P-day  (Wednesday for me) or Saturday because the P- day is basketball and Saturday's are sand volleyball days.) (On the P-day, that's the only day we're able to email).  It feels weird that I've been here for 2 weeks already, and during the time, so much more has happened: We sang off some Hawaiian missionaries to their respective missions by singing Aloha'oe (as a district, the week we leave, we are planning to have that memorized so we can sing that to each other as we part ways).

There's so much more that happefned this week that I think I'm forgetting, but I've written so much more down already.

This is such a spiritually uplifting time. I'm learning how to teach lessons through the spirit, and it really helps my teaching.  I have also learned that teaching is about simplicity.  We should be teaching what the Lord wants us to teach, not just spewing off everything we know about a certain topic.  We plant the seeds of truth in people's hearts.  It is for them to decide if they want the living water that we provide. We are the mouths of the Lord.  We watched "Character of Christ" and "Recognizing the Spirit" by Elder David A Bednar the past 2 Sundays.  Those two talks are so powerful!!   "This mission is not about us, it's about everyone else" "We need to look towards everyone with love and compassion... even when sometimes, others don't show it back. The best gift God gave us is His son, Jesus Christ, to atone for our sins. Christ has felt every pain, temptation, trial, and affliction and know what we all are going through. If we carry on with our heads held high and humble ourselves towards the Lord, we will be blessed. I know these things are true. I KNOW this church is true. I say these things, humbly, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.”

I would like to leave off with a wonderful scripture that I think everyone will benefit:

In the Book of Mormon, it's Alma 12:28-19

28  But that ye would humble yourselves before the Lord, and call on his holy name, and watch and pray continually, that ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear and thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all long-suffering;

29  Having faith on the Lord; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life; having the love of God always in your hearts, that ye may be lifted up at the last day and enter into his rest.

Love and miss you all,

Elder Jacob Wilson
