Week 7: Haircut & A Cappella

Hey,
So I got my hair cut yesterday, and let me just say, it wasn't that bad. Actually my hair looks nice. My roommates are trying to have me cut my hair since, apparently, I look much skinnier with my hair cut.
The Japanese (3-week training) district left on Monday morning at 3:30AM (I'll have to do that too), and so the Japanese sisters wrote each of us notes.  One of the sisters thought that I looked like a prince...HAHAHA, yeah right (probably just the hair).  The other 3 commented on a weird dance I did in the gym for them last week and how funny it was (I forgot what the dance move it was--I think it was the shopping cart, or something of that sort). They're really nice people though.
BTW, I can't wait to go to Japan. I leave in 3 weeks...OOH, I'M SO EXCITED!!!!! I just can't hide it!

So, we didn't do the musical number on Sunday... We were practicing on Friday and I thought it would be a good Idea to record us and see how we sounded--OOF!  It sounded SO bad.  I had the melody part and it was way too high for my range (My range is Bass to low to mid Baritone then it jumps to my falsetto —so, anything in between is limke a mine field for my voice; If I go into that range I don't know when my voice will squeak or just sound plain awful).  We wanted to INVITE the spirit into sacrament meeting, not to kick it out the door. Hahahaha.   I'd send you all the video, but I'm afraid of the humiliation.  Boy, I wish I took vocal lessons.  When I sing, it sounds great--to me.  In a recording, I sound like I'm singing through my nose, and my high notes are pretty much yelled, etc.  We got our district to sing, and I thought we sounded good...until we heard the recording. This was in the classroom so the whole wing of our floor heard it and said it sounded good.  I don't know if I can’t trust the recording device we had or if we just sounded that terrible.  We might just switch out the music.

So, one of our Kouhai (now I made “senpai”/senior), Elder Youngberg's home town is Salt Lake City. He and I are super into musicals.  So, we are thinking of making one after we get off of our missions.  Right now, we're just thinking of ideas.  When we get back, that's when another fun begins.  I honestly feel like it would be fun to do so.  We'll see how it goes. It'll most likely be just a pastime.

Can't believe that I have 3 weeks left until I go to Japan!!!  It's insane. I want to go so bad.  I love Japan! BTW, the elders in my district think that I look very hispanic...no surprise there.

The new curriculum is coming along.   I need to start memorizing scriptures soon.  We already have the first vision and the missionary's purpose memorized.  Now to memorize my favorite scriptures (most of them are in Ether 12) and the ones we NEED to memorize.  My Japanese is surely coming. Still need a lot of gospel vocabularies -- it's like a new language in and of itself.  Our practice lessons are going really well.  There's a lot of pressure but that's normal.

Our district has started to do a goal where everyday, we state 3 things we're grateful for.  Not just the normal stuff but to think of something larger.  Being grateful for things is super important.  When we have a grateful outlook on things, we become better.  We appreciate the small things more and life changes for the better.  Our branch president wife told us about a skier.  This skier was projected to be in the top 5 skiers in the world.  She had all the talent and the equipment to go along with it.  She had trainers and helpers that would make her better, but she didn't perform as she was supposed to.  She was going to be dropped by her sponsor since she wasn't improving. However, her family (being very rich) asked for 1 more chance before the sponsor dropped this skier.  So this family hired a special person to figure out why this skier wasn't improving.  This person would go along with this skier in her personal life and see what was up.  What the helper found out was that this skier didn't have any gratitude.  So after this, the helper asks the skier to text them 3 things she was grateful for each day. The skier was kind of confused but went along with it.  She then, after doing this often, became a better skier and a better person.  In fact, she has become the 3rd best skier in the world and wasn't dropped by her sponsor.  This is one of small example of how much gratitude makes a difference in our life. So, I would like to encourage everyone to list things that you are grateful this everyday.  Maybe you could write down or say 3 things that you are grateful for at the end of the day, before you go to bed.

Today's scripture: 2 Nephi 26:33
33 For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he doeth that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile

Please remember that Heavenly Father and the Lord loves everyone.  They know everybody by name, what their trials are, what their dreams are, who they are, and knows how to guide everyone to become the best person they can be.  You are truly loved!!  You are accepted.  Just know there're people that knows you by heart and is always looking out for you. If you need some peace and comfort, prayer truly helps.  Heavenly father is listening!!  He wants you to succeed. Everything that is thrown at you is to make you stronger.  He looks at everyone with love.
