Week 28: New Comp = New Era (Week 19 in the field)

Hey,

That's right, I have a new companion! His name is Elder Larsen.  It's been a good 4 days with him, and he's helped me so much already.  It's a new era for sure.  He's very different from Elder Uhlig.  He's been super helpful though.  He's a part of a military family so he can get me on the base.  He brought my passport from Honbu (the Mission office) so I'm actually able to go on base today!  I'm excited!

So, somewhat embarrassing experience; It was after Eikaiwa (English class), and Elder Bodily and I were talking about line dances.  I started to do the "floss" dance and an Eikaiwa high school-aged member was like "Oh, I can do that too."  So she started doing the dance too.  After a bit of dancing here and there, showing off our dance moves, she was like "Oh, I'm learning another dance from a k-pop video!  Do you want to dance along?"  Since I like dancing, I was like "Sure!" So, she pulled up the video and I tried to follow along.  People took videos... I don't have it but I need to get it.  Anyway, I got some compliments.  People were like "you're following along really well" or like "I can't believe you can dance that well."  My dancing is more like 90% energy and 10% talent, but people think that's good so I guess I'll just go along with it.

The stake conference yesterday was great!  We had Elder Chey from the Quorum of the 70 come and speak to us.  It was so great!  He had us all sing "I am a Child of God" in Korean, Japanese, and English (dependant on if we knew it in that language.)  He told us about how, when we are feeling down we should sing.  When we don't know what to do, we should sing.  I take that advice to heart (It's because I always sing as I Dendo).  He then asked all the missionaries to stand up.  We stood up and he invited a companionship to come to the stand (The Naha Shimai went up without hesitation).  He had them role-play and he said something that puts so much more pressure on us now.  He said "If you don't know something, ask the missionaries.  They know everything.  When you're confused or need inspiration of anything gospel related, ask the missionaries.  They will help.  Do you know why?  It's because they have the spirit and this (He pulled out a Preach My Gospel manual)."  He also compared Dendo to Natto.  Natto is a traditional Japanese food made from soybeans fermented.  It is a healthy food that Japanese people really like.  If you've ever tried it for the first time, most chances are that you wouldn't like it, but as you continue to eat it, you start liking it more and more.  By the 5th pack, you'll really like it.  The same goes to the Book of Mormon.  If you haven't tasted of it (read it), then obviously having a person who knows that it's healthy and how many times you must partake of it in order to like it more should be great.  That's why we all need to invite the missionaries to help us with the gospel. It's great!  Can't wait for what's to come.
That's about our week.  Catch you on the flip side.

Love You all!

Elder Jacob Wilson
