Week 45: Going, Going, Gone! (week 36th on the field)
Hey again,
So the reason I set the title as Going, Going, Gone! is because Elder
Pauperio is leaving. He was sure going this transfer. We improved efforts so
much since last transfer, and we've definitely seen tons of miracles. I get a
new companion, but I still haven't received the transfer call yet, so I don't
know what to expect. All I know is that I'm supposed to head to Kagoshima to
drop off Elder Pauperio so he can go to Fukuoka by tomorrow morning. We are
taking the boat again... that's another 12 hour trip (I have the round trip so
that's 24 hours for me). Plus, we leave tonight, get into Kagoshima tomorrow morning
(Wednesday), Elder Pauperio leaves to go to the Fukuoka Elders' apartment, and I
stay in Kagoshima--I think--till transfers on Thursday. I will probably then do
the same thing that Elder Pauperio and I did last transfer week and stay over
till Friday, ride back and come home on Saturday. It will be kind of exhausting, but that's okay. I'll still push passed that.
This past week, there was a lot going on. We went to the beach and
taught a lesson with the newly reactivated member--which was awesome! We taught
him about enduring to the end. In Japan, people work on Sundays. The culture
isn't a Christian background so Sundays mean little to shops and shop owners. Many members have a hard time with coming to church because of it. That's tough
for us and the members. The members, I would assume, want to come to church, but
I think they are super scared about standing out at work or having that
spiritual courage to take a stand in their belief that they stand back in the
shadows and get little respect in the workforce. Anyway, back to the lesson, I
shared 2 Nephi 31:20, and explained about the need to keep pushing forward. Then, since we were at the beach, even though it probably didn't have too much
relevance to what we were talking about, I shared Alma 30:44 about there
needing to be an existence of God and that nature and planets and all the
motion around us is proof that there had to be a beginning and that there has
to be a God. He thought it was a nice touch too.
This past week was also pretty much visiting the people Elder Pauperio
wanted to say goodbye to. We visited others, but that was kind of the main. Ooh,
also a great part about Amami is that there is this one AMAZING member. His
name is Iwamoto, and totally has the Dendou fire. On Friday and even Saturday
morning, we spent visiting people with him. On Friday, he set up and took us to
an appointment with one of the people we are teaching. Then on Saturday
morning, he drove us around to 3 returning member's houses, and we were able to
meet and talk with them. Member missionary work is the BEST!
We also had an encounter with some playground equipment. It was super
cool. Something you would only see in Japan, but it was shaped like a pirate
ship. Well, on the front, there was a rope hanging down with a knot on the
bottom of the rope so I thought I would jump and swing on it. When I did it,
Elder Pauperio wanted to imitate it but...well... let's just say it didn't go
too well. We had a quick fun time though! There's a video below. Until next time, that's all I've got!
Sincerely,
Elder Wilson
