Week 24: あけましておめでとう!!!! (Week 15 on the field)

Happy New Year!!!!

Hows it going yall?  I talked to my family on Christmas. That was great!  I am only allowed to talk to my family twice a year over Skype (Once on christmas and once on Mother's Day).
This week, we had so many 食事's /Shokuji (food appointments). nWe were able to go caroling, have a nice lunch with the Bishop and his wife, and go to a member's house for a delicious dinner.  Since tomorrow is New Year's, 会長 /Kaicho (mission president) told us to "go enjoy the culture" and "don't go housing and streeting."  We are packed full with appointments today and tomorrow.  We have appointments back-to-back.  This morning, Elder Uhlig has been on the phone all morning as members have been calling us to invite us over.  Now, we don't have any free time what so ever.  What a blessing!!  We are so grateful for their kind invitations!!

So, funny story then an embarrasing one.  Two days ago, the Naha Sisters and Elders, the Ishigaki Elders, and Elder Uhlig and I were at the church talking and doing some online dendo then, all the sudden, this dude walked into the church.  He shook all of our hands and sat down in the Family History Center (Right next to me).   We all didn't know what's going on, but apparently this dude is deaf.  I've been practicing some JSL but don't know that much (All I know is love, rain, hello, and happy).  Elder Uhlig walked in and wrote on the white board (in Japanese of course, but I'll translate it)  "Hello. How are you?"  The man read it and signed that he's happy.  Elder Uhlig then wrote "Do you have an appointment with someone?"  Then the dude grabbed the marker and wrote down "December 30th, 10AM, I'm coming." and left.  We were laughing as he left because we were so confused.
Embarrasing one then: So, on the same day, the zone leaders had to get together so Elder Bodily and I were together.  Higa, who is mentally handicapped, came in and Elder Ehlert (the other zone leader) said that it's now Elder Bodily and my responsibility to teach a lesson.  So we went into a room and taught him.  The whole time in my mind, I was thinking he isn't a member so at the end of the lesson, I invited him to be baptized.  He accepted.  Elder Bodily didn't know what was going on with Higa either so he went along with it.  When he left, I told the zone leaders what happened.  They said that was too bad. I was pretty confused.  Then they told me why that was bad.  HE WAS ALREADY A MEMBER!!!!!  I felt so bad afterwards.  I went from "Yay! I set up a baptismal date" to "Oh no! しまった! /Shimatta!"  So that was just about my week. Stay warm mis amigos! Hace frio!

Love y'all,

Elder Jacob Wilson
