Hello,
Yeah... we got dropped. So, the last lesson we had with this person, we
invited this woman to be baptized, but she thought she wasn't ready for that, and
needed time to think. Because she goes to Kagoshima a lot, we weren't able to
meet up for almost a month. In that time, I think doubt crept in and she had
lots of time to contemplate on that. At the last lesson, she said that it would be
something she'd want to do and knew it was important, but wasn't ready for a
date yet. So this time when we met, she said that even though she stumbled a bit with
what words to use, the day before the lesson she realized that she was happy
with where she was in life, and I think that finding out what baptism
meant during the lesson probably got to her. She told us that she was
predetermined to stop lessons before she came to this lesson, so, I'm kind of
sad about that. Even though we love people and desire their salvation,
sometimes people choose different paths-- and that's their choice. It saddens
me like Alma and the Sons of Mosiah to see people turn away from the gospel, and
it just causes my heart to fall apart. Sometimes, while thinking about the
people we're teaching, I lie awake at night thinking about how to help these
people. They all need help in very different ways, but they're all sons and
daughters of God. When you're on a mission, you grow to love everyone around
you because you're praying for them every day. I miss her..., but there is no
time to sulk! There are tons of other brothers and sisters that need this
gospel, and it would definitely hurt more to find out that I wasn't there for
someone when they needed us the most.
We had a Habu adventure this past week too. It's interesting that Amami has
a ton of Vipers (Habu) and everyone talks about these snakes. So, last
preparation day, Elder Ackroyd and I went to a Habu Center. The Habu center had
14 or so caged vipers. BUT, the most interesting part was after we went outside
of this Habu Center, we found a guy trying to catch a live Habu and stuff it in
a box so he could bring it into the Habu Center. Habu ever seen something like
this? (Hehehe... puns). I had some commentary on this in a video down at the
bottom.
We went around with our amazing member again this week. Iwamoto 兄弟 (Kyodai/Brother) one of the best member missionaries that I have ever seen. He drove us
around for 5 hours to different members houses so we could fellowship them. Then, he took us to dinner and he took us to an amazing view along the way. At
the end, he gave us a referral for a person to go and invite to English class. so, Elder Ackroyd and I tried that the next day... unfortunately the person
wasn't home. But, that's okay. The miracles of member-missionary work!
Let me just say, being a senior companion is hard. Missionaries, I don't
think give as much credit to a good senior companion. It takes a lot of
patience and humility. Just because I'm senior doesn't mean that I can boss my
junior companion around... we have to work in unity. So, I've tried to balance
my growth as well as my companion's growth and the area's growth. Being a
normal senior companion, I think is easy... but if you want to take that extra
step, then you have to be willing to submit and be humble...that is my thought.
As always, Love you all.
