Week 8: Inching Forward
Hey y'all,
So, funny moment first. Lee ちょうろう/Choro (Elder) ripped his pants today. He was in his suit that is in the picture of both him and I, and he was flipping a coin (since he likes doing that). His suit pants are pretty tight but he could still fit in them so he went with them. His other suit was at the dry cleaners, and we were going to the temple so he wore a suit--like we always do. He dropped a coin, and bent down to pick it up. When he squatted maybe 2 inches, riiiippppp!!! There went his pants. the rip was about 6 inches down the back of his pants. It was so funny —sorry, Elder Lee! He was covering his backside the entire way back to the residency so he could change. As soon as we have him change, we took pictures. That is whe isn't in the suit in the group pic.
We're so close to leaving the MTC. It'll be so sad to leave my awesome district and companion. The bond that we've made is so strong. I'll miss every one of them. There have been some really good talks given and I've learned so much here. The main topic that I've learned coming here are two giant things; Open your mouth and keep moving forward. We all leave impacts on others and that's what we did for our “shining moment” yesterday (I think I've explained what the “shining moment” is, but It's a way we've learned how to bond by stating a topic and choosing a name of a district member. Without disclosing a name or even referring he or she, we each state things that correspond to a topic we are given regarding a person you choose. We had a great time guessing who each person got.)
Well, I got everyone to cry--that's not always a good thing but this time it was.
Let me first say what was said about me. Elder Dombrowski stated great things about me. I am so grateful for him and his kind words. I was so close to bawling. He stated how much I've helped him
and been an example in the MTC. He stated how, even though everyone seems to have their hard
days, I'm the one who is smiling, and it seems like I never have a bad day. He called me the ultimate missionary and how I will do miraculous things in the field because of the happiness that I always show on my face. He went all the way back to the second week when I gave him a blessing on one of his hardest days in the MTC, and how much that helped him get through that. I was so touched, I gave him a big hug.
Now, what I said. I was the last one to go so I was finishing things off. I got Elder Tani's name. I love Elder Tani with all my heart--I stated this in the circle without giving away he or she, of course. I told him how much of a trooper he is, and how he feels like family. He's the one that makes me feel special. When I'm feeling down--even when I don't show it--he's the one that gives me comfort here at the MTC. The thing I said that hit everyone's heart was as follows: "I love how this person is with my companion. As I've gone in the MTC, I told this person to take care of my companion." Now, the following is the point when I start cyring which makes everyone cry too: "He is the person I care about most right now and this person shows my companion so much love. I've prayed for my companion every day so that he can be happy since I've been here, and this person is the answer to those prayers. This person always has my back but mostly my companion's back. I never want my companion to feel homesick and this person is always making the MTC feel like home..." and before I could get off the next sentence, Elder Tani gave me a big hug. Then, everyone joined and gave hugs or handshakes, then said “あいしています/ Aishiteimasu (which means I love you in Japanese). Then Sister Buckmister stated a question we all have had questioned about since day one: "Why can't we hug everyone? This stinks!" We all know why, but it stinks sometimes. On the way back to our residency, my district members were all like "you did it Wilson ちょうろう/Choro. You got us all to cry." Saunders しまい/Shimai (Sister) said, "This experience was even better than the first week experience!! " I just told them that all I just said what was in my heart. When it was just about curfew, Tani ちょうろう/Choro told me what he thought of me. He told me how unique of a person I am, and how the uniqueness is always a great and uplifting thing. He said that even though I don't show my hard times, I always have a good ふんいき/Funiki (atmosphere) that makes everyone
happy, feel appreciated and loved.
I just love when the spirit is so strong because it brings the most toughest people to tears —good tears. The spirit is such a blessing, and it guides us through the toughest of times.
We had one しまい/Shimai (which means sister) go home this past week. A couple weeks ago, she wasn't feeling too well and basically collapsed (not actually but pretty close to doing so). So, we gave her a blessing (I'm so glad we have the priesthood on this earth so we can do these miraculous things that Jesus did way back in the days of old). Well, she got checked out by the psychiatrist and doctor this week. The psychiatrist said that everything was fine, but the doctors weren't sure what she has (they thought her brain might be swelling —well, I don't think so and she didn't think so either.) Anyway, so, she was sent home to get checked out. Luckily, we have confirmed that nothing was wrong with her brain. It was so sad to see her go though. The day before she left, she was so happy. She's so tough, and I commend her on how much of a trooper she is. She'd been here for 4 weeks and whatever happens to her now, God has a plan for her. He has a plan for all of us and if we hearken to His counsel, we can be blessed. Having faith is something everyone needs to have and this しまい's faith is super strong. Through these trials, we become stronger. So the night before this しまい left, we sang Aloha 'oe to her (we had like 5 minutes of practice beforehand). It was so sad seeing her have to leave, and the day after just felt so empty. It was super weird seeing her companion not with her and with a different person. I sure hope and pray that she will come back. We all just love her so much! This hasn't happened to us often, so it just came as such a shock when she was the one to leave.
This is why today's scripture is on trials and faith:
It is my favorite scripture: Ether 12:6
6. And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.
Faith is something that seems so easy but is so hard. Faith is knowing that tomorrow the sun will rise
or like a seed; When you plant it, and nourish it, and do your best to keep it growing, it will become beautiful. Like it says in the verse, you can’t receive a witness of truth until after you have faith. Faith is knowing that even though you don't know everything, you know that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ do and that they will guide you in the right direction.
I would like to challenge each of you to pray for the knowledge of truth. Pray for peace, pray for comfort, pray to know that these things are true. If you do these things, having an open mind, having faith in Christ, you will receive a witness that the things that Jesus says are true. You will be blessed. This is a step in knowing truth.
Moroni 10:4-5
4. And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, saving faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may now the truth of all things.
I love you so much!
